My friend recently purchased a Nikon D90 dSLR, and went the same route as I did and purchased a 18-200mm as her first lens. The Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM is an all around lens with a huge zoom range (11.1x). It offers a lot of the newest technology all with a pretty low price point.

The Nikon 50mm f/1.8D is the cheapest lens in Nikon's line up. Everyone was saying it was a must have in everyone's camera kit at only about $130 brand new. With the price you get a standard focal length and large aperture lens for creamy bokeh and fast shooting in low light.

After owning my Nikon D80 for a year with my Nikon 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 VR lens, I realized that I like shooting wide angle. I love taking pictures of landscapes, and having the equivalent of 27mm was wide enough. So, I decided that I wanted to get the Nikon 17-55 f/2.8.

The Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED lens is a great all around lens that you can travel light with when going on vacations. You basically can live with just this one lens when travelling, or even if you just don't want to spend thousands of dollars on your kit. The 18-200mm is equilvalent to 11x optical zoom, and the Vibration Reduction (VR) is good for those longer exposures required in dimmer areas.
