It's been an exciting and frustrating few weeks. I've had the idea of creating a Camera/Photography website for the past few months but never really took the initiative to work on it. I've done work on Okaay.com and saw all the hits I was receiving from the photography side. Being that Photography is my second hobby (computers being the other), and with a bunch of friends very interested in it, I thought I'd make a Photography website.

I've never made a site from scratch. From picking a Domain name, to registering that name, to finding a host, to setting everything up. Picking a domain name was fun. Hopefully you understand the Cam and Cheese. If not too bad. Some other names we had.. feel free to take them.. a lot of them are available.

SHORYUCAM.com (for the video game nerds out there. This was tops on our list for a long time until Wheel texted me the winning site name before going to bed )
STOPDOWN.ca
CAMBURGER.com
FSTOPME.com
EXPOSETHEWORLD.ca

And for you dirty people:

CAMSHOT.ca
BUKKACAM.com
CAMONMYFACE.com

I'm sure there were many more but those are the ones that I wrote down and remembered.

After, figuring out the name, I learned that crappy Registrars take forever to refresh their DNS. It took over a day for me to see that www.camandcheese.com redirected to my host. Then I had to figure out if I should use WordPress or Joomla for my CMS! I already picked Joomla even though I said I'd give WP a chance. WP was installed and never used lol. Joomla is just too powerful, and it has many of the features that I wanted on this site, that I think would make it a success. What made things even harder is that Joomla 1.5 is a lot different from Joomla 1.0.x. But, for the most part I got a hang of it. So after a week of installing/reinstalling dozens of plug-ins, modules, and components, and hacking at their code - here's the site. I hope you like it. Now, it's not completely done, there are still some features that will be added in the future. And of course please email me ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. If you want to know more about me, you will need to register and then you can view my profile - as well as create your own profile and view other members of the CAC community!

Yes, I'm a Nikon fanboy, but only because I was lucky enough to be able to use my dad's lenses right when I bought my camera! Plus, they feel better in your hand. I do admit that Canon has a lot more lenses. Come on Nikon where are your fast wide primes?
