Well... Almost. Ordered the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 and the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses. Just missing the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR, but for the time being the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 should do just fine. Sure the Nikon 35-70mm f/2.8 should do fine as well, but it's old and clunky. The focus is loud, and hunts a bit. The newer 24-70 is supposedly the best normal zoom lens out there. For its price it better be. It's about $600 more than Canon equivalent.
What do I get by having the 24-70 versus the 35-70. Well, terriyaki said it best - Faster/quieter Zoom with AF-S, a better quality lens (glass and build), newer lens (you can't even get the 35-70mm new anymore), an extra 11mm on the wide end, and a hood.
Why'd I get the 14-24mm.. well everyone has raved that it's the best ultra-wide angle zoom! I always wanted the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8, but since I have the D700 now the 14-24 is wider than the 11-16 on my D80 (equiv to 16.5 - 24).
So I ordered it from Vistek. I talked to someone on the phone and he gave me a really good price. Photoexpert actually has a VERY good price, about $100 cheaper per lens than anywhere else. The only thing was that they didn't have the Nikon 14-24mm in stock, and the 12% tax kills the deal. With Vistek, the Sales rep beat Aden's prices by a little bit, and the shipping is only $30 for a 1-2 day courier! And it's only 5% tax. When I calculated shipping online for Aden and it was more than $70. And from my past experience it'll take about a week and I'll probably have to pick it up from the post office even if I'm at home waiting for it. I hope Vistek comes through, and I can't wait for the new toys.
I also ordered the MC-30 wired remote trigger. It's a bit expensive at ~$90 for basically a trigger with a lock. That's it. My MC-DC1 remote cord for my D80 was less than $20. I went to Dunne & Rundle today before I placed my order, and they offered me a 10-pin remote. He connected it to a D300 and it worked fine. You can still half press to autofocus, which is what I was concerned about, but it worked. It just looked a little bit ghetto. The cost of the two-piece wire would've been $30. The trigger is a bit cheap looking, it's metal, but cheap looking. And to lock, you just slide a metal piece. We'll see if my decision was smart. Ideally of course, I would've gotten the MC-36 but its $180. Maybe I'll get it in the future when photography gets me money.
